Fossar Investment Bank held its tenth “Thanks Day” on November 28, raising funds for the Unique Children Support Group (Einstök börn). On Thanks Day, all commission income from stock exchange transactions and direct contributions from Fossar’s clients and supporters are donated in full to the cause. This year’s fundraising exceeded expectations, with 26.5 million ISK handed over to representatives of Unique Children on December 3.
According to Guðrún Helga Harðardóttir, Executive Director of Unique Children, the funds will be used to support children and their families. The amount ensures that essential services, including participation in group activities and consultations with specialists, can be provided free of charge for three years. “Finding such strong support and goodwill towards the organization and the families is significant. With Fossar’s help, we can ensure increased professional services for our members, which is crucial and will undoubtedly be very beneficial. Fossar’s employees’ care and approach has been exceptional, and it is precisely community support of this sort that keeps the organization and its services running,” says Harðardóttir.
More people have been contributing directly to the Thanks Day fundraising account in recent years. Steingrímur Arnar Finnsson, CEO of Fossar, says he is immensely proud of the Thanks Day’s growing reach, reflected in the large number of individuals, companies, and other entities that contribute, making the fundraising as impactful as it is.
Around 800 Families Supported
Unique Children is a support organization for children and young people with rare diseases or syndromes. In recent years, and in line with growing needs, the organization’s activities, a support organization for children and young people with rare diseases or syndromes, have steadily increased in scope. Nearly 800 families and relatives of children are now part of the organization, which operates solely on donations and volunteer work, with only one full-time executive director. The organization also offers advice and guidance to families seeking assistance within the healthcare system, which can often be complex for Unique Children. This service is provided to members free of charge.
The Thanks Day’s Growth Over the Years
Fossar held the first Thanks Day in November 2015, awarding the first grant of 2.5 million ISK to the Mothers’ Support Committee. Since then, contributions have increased annually in line with Fossar’s growing activities. Including the amount raised on November 28, Thanks Day has delivered over 140 million ISK to beneficiaries since the fundraising began.
